Who We Are
River Bridge Regional Center receives referrals for service from county Department of Human Services and Law Enforcement agencies. We serve children and families in the four Colorado counties of Pitkin, Garfield, Rio Blanco and Eagle.
A specially trained Victim Advocate serves as each child’s guide and safety net during this most vulnerable time, keeping them fully informed about the process, resources, and ensuring their needs are met along the way.
Within a comfortable interview room, our Forensic Interviewer interacts with each child asking developmentally appropriate, non-leading questions, allowing the child to share their experience and to provide information capable of withstanding court scrutiny, and aiding in the prosecution of abusers.
As part of this process, children may also receive a specialized medical exam to help ensure their health, address any medical needs, and to gather possible evidence of physical and/or sexual assault.
Our bilingual Mental Health Therapist provides individual and family counseling for the abused child and their non-offending family members, in order to address, process, and, ultimately, recover from these painful experiences.
The staff and Multi-Disciplinary Team of River Bridge also provide numerous community outreach and education activities designed to improve the treatment and enhance the prevention of child abuse:
- Classes for parents to help prevent sexual abuse
- Mental health treatment strategies specific to survivors of trauma
- Mandatory Reporter trainings
- The Myths & Facts of Child Abuse
- Interviewing protocol trainings and peer review
- Workshops on the dynamics of child abuse for community members and school personnel
What We Do
where silence ends + healing begins
River Bridge Regional Center is a nationally-accredited nonprofit child advocacy center, part of the community team responding to allegations of child abuse.
River Bridge first opened its doors in 2007 to provide an efficient, comprehensive, and effective “one stop” response to child abuse and neglect. The cottage style, child-friendly center is designed to enhance children’s sense of comfort, safety and well-being.
River Bridge works closely with county child welfare, law enforcement, victim advocates, mental health counselors, and medical providers to support the investigation, treatment, and prevention of child abuse.
