Who We Are
VLFA is a community building organization and is based on the methodology that seeks to uncover and utilize the strengths within communities as a means for sustainable development.
Community development involves changing the relationships between ordinary people and people in positions of power, so that everyone can take part in the issues that affect their lives. It starts from the principle that within any community there is a wealth of knowledge and experience which, if used in creative ways, can be channeled into collective action to achieve the communities’ desired goals. We do this through our Leadership Class as well as person-centered planning sessions, resource development and facilitating inclusive community based opportunities.
What We Do
VLFA was founded in March 2010 by a group of people vested in the idea of an inclusive community where people of all abilities live and participate together in the community, not on the fringes. Our mission is to create access to resources by connecting opportunities for people of all disabilities, their families and communities, from Aspen to Parachute and to Edwards. We do this through active networking with families and organizations in our community as well as participating in local and state-wide initiatives.
