The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors of United Way Battlement to the Bells (UWBB) and will work with the board to implement the strategic goals and objectives of the organization and provide direction and leadership toward achieving the UWBB mission. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following. The board may add additional duties at its discretion at any time. Ultimately, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall management of UWBB.
Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:
- Resource Development and Leadership (including fundraising)

- Financial, Tax and Risk Management
- Board Administration and Support
- Organizational Program Planning
- General Operations and Human Resources
Resource Development (Estimated – 25 percent of ED’s time)
Provide the leadership necessary to meet organizational fundraising goals by researching and identifying funding sources, preparing and submitting proposals, and establishing and implementing strategies to successfully approach and secure the commitment of donors.
Provide Board guidance for Annual Payroll Deduction Campaign – and implement and support a year-round effort to achieve campaign goals and objectives as determined by Board.
Research and prepare grant proposals, as well as other funding applications, as well as grant reporting.
Ensure that all donations are properly recorded in accordance with Federal and state accounting practices and that donations are promptly acknowledged to donors. Maintain a donor database.
Community and Public Relations (Estimated – 10 percent of ED’s time)
Build long-term supportive relationships to benefit UWBB and to meet strategic goals. Ensure that the organization and its mission, programs, products, and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive manner to all relevant stakeholders. Actively and consistently promote the work of UWBB with particular emphasis on the work of partner agencies.
Maintain a website and social media to convey a high-quality UWBB image.
Develop and manage effective relationships with media to ensure coverage of UWBB activities.
Maintain and create community networks, including presentations to community groups, corporations and businesses, fraternal organizations, governments, and potential donors
Financial, Tax and Risk Management (Estimated – 15 percent of ED’s time)
Develop annual budget with Board Executive Committee for Board approval. Prudently manage UWBB resources within those budget guidelines and in accordance with current laws and regulations.
Oversee bookkeeping and accounting of UWBB funds in accordance with the highest nonprofit management standards and regulations. Manage payroll process as necessary.
Ensure all monthly financial reports are provided for board review. Ensure compliance for financial, annual, and other periodic reports as required by partner organizations and grant funding institutions including but not limited to Federal Combined Campaign, Colorado Combined Campaign, United Way Worldwide, and Emergency Food & Shelter.
Maintain proper insurance including property, and directors, and officers liability policies and other policies as directed by the Board.
Board Administration and Support (Estimated – 10 percent of ED’s time)
Partner with the board to create, support, and implement United Way strategies, policies, and procedures including by-laws, strategic plans, and all organizational initiatives.
Maintain all Board records including minutes, financial statements, and meeting agendas.
Inform board and seek direction on strategy implementation.
Programs (Estimated – 30 percent of ED’s time)
Manage AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteers Project grant obligations, including grant reporting and grant writing.
Create and maintain VISTA Volunteer Project documentation.
Manage subsite applications and supervision of volunteers, creating and maintaining positive working relationships, MOU requirements, and grant reporting standards
Emergency Food & Shelter program in accordance with current United Way WorldWide standards and requirements.
Advise board regarding community needs and organization’s capacity to meet those needs.
General Operations and Human Resources (Estimated – 10 percent of ED’s time)
Manage day-to-day operations of UWBB. Maintain a central office and provide effective communication channels via phone, email, and website.
Effectively manage the human resources of the organization according to authorized personnel policies and procedures that fully conform to current laws and regulations.
Supervise and support UWBB VISTA Volunteers.
Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in business or public administration, nonprofit management, psychology, or related field, ideally with a minimum of 3 years of related experience in administration of non-profit or human service agency.
Candidates will demonstrate a strong understanding of fiscal management, resource development and maintenance, agency and program planning, and public relations as well as a commitment to UWBB goals and mission. Successful candidates must pass a criminal background check.
