About the Statewide 2-1-1 Referral Program
2-1-1 is a national information phone number that gives you free access to health and human services information and referrals.
The 2-1-1 program assists people with limited resources to locate nearby programs that can help them find services such as food, financial assistance, home-health services, transportation, and medical and dental services.
Garfield, Pitkin and Eagle counties participate in the Western Colorado 2-1-1 service. The service is not directory assistance; it’s there to help you find available services and to help you get to apply for assistance so that you can find help quickly.
When you phone, a referral specialist will ask some basic questions, both to figure out the best resources available, and also to help you determine what to do first. All collected information will remain confidential.
History of the Program
In 1999, community leaders who wanted to bring a 2-1-1 program to the State of Colorado began working together to develop an integrated system of independent information and referral call centers.
In October 2002, the Public Utilities Commission of Colorado approved the plan. In April 2003, the 2-1-1 dial code was officially activated in Colorado.
