In 2017, United Way Battlement to the Bells became part of the Volunteers in Service to America Family. VISTA was founded in 1965 as a national service program to fight poverty in America. In 1993, VISTA was incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs. Locally, we welcomed 13 skilled VISTA volunteers, fondly known as VISTAs, for assignment to eligible non-profit and other organizations. Each volunteer works to expand organizational capacity through program expansion, volunteer recruitment, marketing and website development, and fundraising. We have partnered with several nonprofits which include: CASA of the Ninth, Youthzone, West Mountain Regional Health Alliance, Alpine Legal Services, Family Visitor Programs, Highwater Farm, Literacy Outreach, Lift-Up, Habitat for Humanity, Colorado Mountain College, and Garco Design Works.

In 2018-2019 the United Way Battlement to the Bells AmeriCorps VISTA Project:

  • Had 1,920 volunteer hours per each VISTA Volunteer
  • Had as many as 9 VISTA volunteers serving at a time
  • Helped over 1,660 people
  • Had 3 VISTAs successfully complete their year of service
  • Completed second full year of VISTA partnership
  • Leveraged over $263,000 between In-Kind donations and cash
